Test a custom input to verify an edge case (e.g. empty lists, negative numbers, duplicates).
This bug belongs to the logic errors pattern
The wrong operator, an inverted condition, a formula the right way round but backwards.
What went wrong: In Python, 0 is falsy, so 0 or 3 evaluates to 3 instead of preserving the 0 retry limit.
The fix: Check explicitly for None: return 3 if override is None else override
Remember: In Python, 0 is falsy with or; use is None checks when 0 is a valid value.
The pattern behind it: logic errors.
