Assignment does not copy, a shallow copy still shares its contents, and mutating methods return None.
What went wrong: receipt = cart is one list with two names. Clearing the cart clears the receipt too.
The fix: receipt = cart.copy()
Remember: = never copies a list. Use .copy() to keep a snapshot.
