Test a custom input to verify an edge case (e.g. empty lists, negative numbers, duplicates).
This bug belongs to the type errors pattern
Totals that concatenate, sorts that put 10 before 9, comparisons that refuse to run.
What went wrong: The JavaScript Number() constructor coerces an empty string ("") into 0 rather than NaN.
The fix: Explicitly validate that ageStr is non-empty before converting: if (typeof ageStr !== "string" || ageStr.trim() === "") return null
Remember: In JavaScript, Number("") is 0, while parseInt("") is NaN.
The pattern behind it: type errors.
